A man has pleaded not guilty to murdering a woman whose body was found in a burning house in Northumberland.

Jacqueline Grant, 48, from Ponteland, was discovered in the bedroom of the semi-detached house in Meadowbank Drive, Choppington, on 29 December.

A post-mortem examination revealed she had been assaulted and strangled.

Stephen Streener, 49, from Meadowbank Drive, denied murder at Newcastle Crown Court. He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on 4 May.
