Trial for Turner Prize 'streaker'

A man who gatecrashed the Turner Prize ceremony at Gateshead's Baltic gallery is to face trial.

Mark Roberts, 47, ran on stage wearing a pink tutu and thong, just as the winner's name was about to be announced, on 5 December.

Appearing before magistrates in Gateshead on Thursday, he denied a charge of disorderly conduct likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

The performance artist of Fairfield, Liverpool, will go on trial in March.

Sculptor Martin Boyce, whose works include artificial trees and a leaning litter bin, was awarded the prize.

It was only the second time the event had been hosted outside London.
