Cyclist killed in collision with car in Washington

A cyclist has died in a collision with a car in Washington, Tyne and Wear.

Police were called to the scene of the crash at about 22:00 GMT on Wednesday on Cherry Blossom Way, near the junction with Washington Road.

The 31-year-old cyclist died as a result of his injuries. His name has not yet been released.

The 54-year-old driver of the car has been arrested and is in police custody. Anyone with any information has been asked to contact Northumbria Police.
