Carlisle man in court charged with rape in Newcastle

A man has appeared in court charged with rape after a 22-year-old woman was found with head injuries in Newcastle.
Police received a call on Sunday, after the woman's husband became concerned that she had not returned home.
She was found at the Royal Station Hotel and treated in hospital.
David Roderick, 34, of Borland Avenue, Carlisle, appeared before Newcastle magistrates charged with rape, assault and false imprisonment. He was remanded in custody until 18 January.
