Man charged in Newcastle kidnap rape inquiry

A man has been charged with rape after a 22-year-old woman was found with head injuries in Newcastle.

Northumbria Police received a call at 11:27 GMT on Sunday, after the woman's husband became concerned that she had not returned home.

She was found at the Royal Station Hotel and taken to hospital for treatment to a head injury.

David Roderick, of Borland Avenue, Carlisle, has been charged with rape, assault and false imprisonment.

He is due before magistrates in Newcastle on Wednesday.

A 48-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of obstructing police and a 52-year-old man arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to kidnap were released on police bail.
