A man has been charged with the murder of a woman, whose body was found in a burning house in Northumberland.

Jacqueline Grant, 48, from Ponteland, was discovered in the bedroom of the semi-detached house in Meadowbank Drive, Choppington, on Tuesday.

A post-mortem examination revealed she had been assaulted and strangled.

Northumbria Police said Stephen Streener, 49, from Meadowbank Drive, had been charged with her murder. He is due before magistrates on Saturday.
