London 2012: Excitement in Gateshead at torch relay
The Olympic flame is to be carried on a zip-wire from the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle as part of its journey around the British Isles.
The torch will travel through Gateshead on Saturday, 16 June.
Alan Elders, from the Low Fell Running Club, said he had already seen an increase in members since the announcement of the London 2012 Olympics.
Other athletes from Gateshead said they were "very excited" about the visit.
