The Langtails have only been together for one year, but they have already made a big impression in the north-east of England music scene.

The four piece band from South Shields have already played at the O2 Academy in Newcastle and are now through to the semi-final of Live & Unsigned 2011.

If they make the final they will then play at the O2 Arena in London.

Echoing the sounds of The Libertines and The Cribs, the indie band are also hoping to play festivals in the summer.

The group are made up of Jamie Pollard (vocals and guitar), Stephen Jones (drums), Nicholas Joyce (guitar) and Rhys Stobbs (bass guitar).

Starting off performing indie rock covers, their confidence grew and the band now write their own songs.

Singer Jamie, said: "Our music is important to us because it's an idea, a thing that we have created that is pressed together through each of our own influences, styled and forged to become a thing of complete originality and that is our own.

"Music is important to all of us and when people like what we have created, that's the biggest reward we could ask for really, people we have never even met getting a kick out of our music."

Live & Unsigned

The band have crammed in as many gigs as possible in their first year and have travelled around the country in true rock 'n' roll style.

Guitarist Nicholas, said: "We did a gig in Camberwell in London last year which was funny, we took all of our amps and instruments all down on a Megabus from Newcastle. Probably enough said really."

After a whirlwind first year, the band have now impressed judges from the music industry and beat off competition from almost 500 musicians and singers to make it through to the semi-final of the Live & Unsigned 2011 competition.

They will be battling it out on Sunday 24 April at The Journal Tyne Theatre in Newcastle, for a place in the National Showcase Grand Final at The O2 Arena in London.
