Charge as officers hurt stopping car in Middlesbrough

A man has been charged with dangerous driving after a police officer was dragged along the ground and another struck while trying to stop a car being driven off.

The incident happened in Albert Road, Middlesbrough, early hours on Saturday.

Officers stopped a Saab while investigating a theft, but the driver drove off after they tried to take the keys to the vehicle.

A 32-year-old man will appear at Teesside Magistrates' Court later.

A 24-year-old also arrested in connection with the incident has been bailed pending further inquiries.

One officer suffered head and neck injuries and the other was treated for minor injuries. Both have since been released from hospital.

The car was later found abandoned in Marton Road.
