Two officers 'struck and dragged along' trying to stop Middlesbrough car

A police officer was dragged along the ground and another struck while trying to stop a car being driven off.

They stopped a Saab in Albert Road, Middlesbrough, in the early hours of Saturday while investigating a theft.

But as they tried to take the keys from the driver, the car was driven off, hitting one officer and dragging the other a short distance.

Two men have been arrested. One officer suffered head and neck injuries and the other was treated for minor injuries.

Both have been released from hospital.

The car was later found abandoned in Marton Road.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and a 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and obstructing police.
