A 52-year-old woman suffered a broken arm and serious facial injuries in the attack at about 06:00 BST on 7 June on Borough Road in North Ormesby.

Police said a man arrested in West Yorkshire on suspicion of attempted rape will face no further action.

Detectives are keen to trace the man seen in the CCTV image.

A spokesman for Cleveland Police said: "We believe he had been in the Linthorpe Road/Borough Road area in the hours leading up to the attack.

"Any information about this male should be passed to the major crime team at Middlesbrough."

The victim remains in hospital.
