Police on Teesside have been granted more time to interview a man arrested on suspicion of murder.

The 18-year-old was held after the body of a woman in her 20s was discovered in a property on Parliament Road, Middlesbrough, early on Saturday.

A post-mortem examination later revealed she died from injuries sustained in an assault.

She had not been formally identified, but police believe she was originally from Eritrea in the Horn of Africa.

Officers have also made contact with someone thought to be a family member.
