Woman dies in Darlington house fire

A 32-year-old woman has died after a house fire in Darlington.

Police, fire and ambulance crews attended an address in Brunton Street at about 11:00 GMT following reports of a fire in the kitchen.

Despite efforts to resuscitate the woman, who was rescued from the living room, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Durham Police said an investigation was under way to establish the cause of the fire. Brunton Street remains closed.

Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said on arrival the property was "heavily smoke logged".
