Man charged over Middlesbrough stomach stabbing

A man has been charged in connection with the stabbing of another man in Middlesbrough.

A 28-year-old man was found with a stab wound to the stomach at a property in Aire Street early on Monday. He was taken to hospital, where he remains.

Cleveland Police said a 26-year-old man has been charged with wounding with intent and possession of a sharply pointed article.

He is due to appear at Teesside Magistrates' Court later.

    Police investigating a drive-by shooting in County Durham have arrested a total of 12 people.

    Several shots were fired at a 56-year-old man as as he stood in the garden of his home in Wingate 10 days ago.

    Durham Police say the victim's recovering and "continuing to make progress". All 12 have been bailed.

    Birmingham 0-3 Sunderland 08:43:

    Sunderland scored three second-half goals to defeat Championship side Birmingham City and move into the third round of the Capital One Cup.

    David Cotterill hit the post and Wes Thomas fired an effort wide as the Blues came close to taking a first-half lead.

    But their opponents took control late on as Jordi Gomez scored from 25 yards following Adam Johnson's square pass. Johnson doubled the lead after good work from Jozy Altidore, before Connor Wickham's angled effort sealed the win.

    Drugs 'found in sweets' 08:26:

    A batch of sweets has been contaminated with a prescription drug at a Nestle factory in Newcastle.

    The firm said it discovered "a standard prescription tablet, commonly prescribed to both adults and children" in one of its products last week at its Fawdon site.

    A spokesman said none of the tainted batch had left the factory, and all products are "completely safe". Police said they are investigating the contamination.
