Man arrested over Stockton house arson attack

A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson after seven people were forced to flee a house blaze on Teesside.

Four adults and three children escaped the fire at the property in Kingston Road, Stockton, on Friday.

Police said an initial investigation suggested a flammable liquid had been thrown at the house.

A Cleveland force spokeswoman said a 25-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and later bailed.

Inquiries are continuing.

    Northern Rail services between Newcastle and Sunderland are still being disrupted after a freight train wagon derailed near Heworth.

    No trains are running until at least 11:00. Passengers are advised to use the Metro instead. Work is taking place to assess the damage to the track and remove the derailed train.

    Woman killed by car 08:51:

    A woman has died after being hit by a car in Middlesbrough.

    It happened on Saltersgill Avenue at about 18:35 yesterday, when the woman in her 50s was hit by a black Hyundai. She was taken to James Cook Hospital but died.

    The 19-year-old driver was arrested at the scene and is being questioned by police.

    I've spoken to the fire service and they've confirmed there was a fire on a carriage on the Metro this morning.

    They sent two fire engines out after getting a call at 07:35. The carriage was evacuated and the fire has now been put out.
