Nine-year-old girl badly hurt as bottle is thrown at car

A nine year-old girl suffered serious facial injuries when a bottle was thrown at the car she was travelling in, shattering a window.

Police said the child was showered with glass when the bottle was hurled at the car on the A693 in Stanley, at 22:30 GMT on Friday.

Durham Police described it as "mindless" and said the girl had suffered "significant" injuries.

It is believed the bottle was thrown from a nearby underpass.

The girl was a front seat passenger.
