Two Hartlepool men charged with murdering a former amateur boxer have appeared before magistrates.

Mark Denton, 31, died in hospital after being attacked at a New Year's Eve party at a house in Hutton Avenue in the town.

David Sowerby, 23, of Allerton Close, and 21-year-old Anthony Middleton, of Bruntoft Avenue, did not enter pleas.

They were remanded in custody and are due to return to Teesside Crown Court on 7 January.

Mr Denton was a promising middleweight when he was younger and was well known in the local boxing community.
