Former professional footballer Gary Parkinson, who cannot move, speak or swallow, has thanked his fans for the support he has received.

Mr Parkinson, who had spells at Middlesbrough, Preston North End, Burnley and Blackpool, suffered a stroke in September 2010.

He moved back into his specially adapted home in Bolton in 2012 after two years in hospital living with locked-in syndrome.

He and his family spoke to BBC Tees' Ali Brownlee.
