Shots fired outside Eldon Lane Working Men's Club

A man and woman were injured when shots were fired from a car towards a group of people standing outside a social club in County Durham.

A green Subaru pulled up outside Eldon Lane Working Men's Club in Bishop Auckland at 21:20 BST on Saturday, Durham Police said.

The victims, in their 30s, were taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital.

Det Insp Marian Garland described it as a "very serious incident". Two men, aged 19 and 21, have been arrested.

The injured man and woman have since been discharged from hospital.

Ms Garland said: "We believe this was not a random attack and that other people in the group, standing outside the club, were the assailants' targets."
