The family of a motorcyclist killed in a crash have spoken of their "devastation" at his death.

Alexander Mackenzie and Angela Bate, both 21, from Seaham, County Durham, died on the A19 near Easington on Saturday.

Mr Mackenzie's mother Lindsay said he would be remembered as a "popular and pleasant lad with his whole life ahead of him".

A lorry driver was arrested and bailed in connection with the crash.

The road was closed in both directions for more than 12 hours.

Ms Mackenzie said: "Alex's death has hit us extremely hard as we are a very close family.

"Alex leaves two younger brothers, Andrew and Dominic to whom he was very close and they are going to miss their big brother dreadfully."
