Detectives have appealed again for help to solve the decade-old murder of a Middlesbrough sex worker on the first anniversary of her body being found.

Rachel Wilson, 19, was last seen on 31 May 2002 but her remains were only found on a farm on 27 June last year.

Since the discovery Cleveland police, who have a team of 20 officers on the case, have interviewed 200 sex workers.

But the force said it was no nearer solving the case and appealed for help to end her family's suffering.

'Suffered immensely'

Police began a murder inquiry when Miss Wilson disappeared, but her remains were only found near Newham Hall Farm in Coulby Newham last year.

Det Insp Andy Greenwood said the last known sighting of the victim was on CCTV at 07:02 in the Woodlands Road area of Middlesbrough town centre.

He said: "Rachel's family has suffered immensely over the last 11 years and they need to know what happened to her.

"I am asking on their behalf for anyone to come forward with information about this case."

A 57-year-old man was arrested in 2003 in connection with Miss Wilson's disappearance, but was released without charge.

Links to other sex workers who went missing from the Middlesbrough area have also been ruled out by police over the years.

It is not believed that Miss Wilson died where her body was found. A cause of death has never been established because of a lack of forensic evidence.
