Guisborough Hospital urgent care unit reopens after gas leak

The urgent care unit at a hospital on south Teesside has reopened after a gas leak forced it to close.

Engineers were called to Guisborough Hospital on Saturday after an underground gas leak was detected.

Staff and 18 elderly patients were moved to nearby hospitals as the unit was unable to provide heating or hot water.

The South Tees NHS Trust said the unit had reopened using "temporary measures".

A spokesman for the trust said it would be up to two weeks before operations returned to normal and patients were returned to the unit.
