Witton Castle caravan fire death 'not suspicious'

Police have said they are not treating the cause of a fatal caravan fire in County Durham as suspicious.

A man's body was found in the wreckage of the static caravan at Witton Castle country park, near Bishop Auckland, following the blaze early on Friday.

It has been confirmed the man was in his early 30s and had been a resident of the site since late summer but he has not been formally identified.

Post mortem examination results have been sent to the coroner.

A Durham Police spokesman said the early indications of a joint investigation were the fire had started inside and it was not, at this stage, being treated as suspicious.
