Police investigate after fatal Witton Castle caravan fire

A body has been found in the wreckage of a static caravan destroyed in a blaze at a country park.

Police said the fire at the Witton Castle park, near Bishop Auckland, at around 05:00 GMT was so intense the caravan collapsed.

Police said a body was found in the wreckage but they were unable to confirm if it was a man or a woman.

A probe into the cause is being carried out by Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service and Durham Police.
