Middlesbrough Council to trial free car parking
A free car parking trial will be introduced within days as a Teesside council attempts to boost town centre trade.
Shoppers will be able to park in council-run car parks around Middlesbrough for up to two hours over a six-month period.
The trial, which starts on Monday, is in response to "haemorrhaging" custom, the council said.
It is estimated the scheme will cost the authority £300,000 in lost revenue.
