Pensioner dies in Wheatley Hill collision

A driver has been killed in a collision in Wheatley Hill, County Durham.

Alan McGee, from Vicarage Estate in Wingate, is thought to have been trying to turn his Toyota into the Jet garage on the A181 when the crash happened on Monday morning.

The 76-year-old collided with a Peugeot at about 09:50 BST. He suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.

The other driver suffered minor injuries in the crash. The road was closed for a period afterwards.
