A man has been found guilty of killing a County Durham father-of-two.

Jonathan Gilbert, 43, suffered serious head injuries and died in hospital, following the attack at his home in Sycamore Gardens, Crook, in April.

Christopher Morgan, 24, of Thornfield Road, Consett, was cleared of murder, but convicted of manslaughter at Teesside Crown Court.

The court heard the attack followed a row between the two men. Morgan was remanded for sentencing.

The jury was told Morgan punched, kicked and stamped on Mr Gilbert during an argument on 20 April.

Mr Gilbert died in Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary three days later.

Morgan claimed he did not intended to cause Mr Gilbert serious harm.

He is due to be sentenced on 22 October.
