A £40,000 multi-use games area is to be built in Stockton, the town council has confirmed.

Stockton Council, securing the money from SITA UK Trust, will build the area in John Whitehead Park in Billingham.

The £41,198 area will allow people of all ages to play sports such as football and basketball and offer recreational facilities all year round.

Work on the games area is set to start later this year and be completed in spring next year.

SITA UK Trust provides funding through the Landfill Communities Fund.
