Family threatened in County Durham armed raid

A family was left traumatised following an armed robbery at their County Durham home.

Four masked men broke into the house in Redworth, near Newton Aycliffe, while the couple and their two young children were watching television on Monday.

The 50-year-old householder was assaulted, suffering facial injuries, in front of his children. He and his wife were also threatened with a knife.

After demanding a substantial amount of cash, the raiders drove off.

A Durham Police spokesman said: "This was a particularly brutal and violent attack on a family in their home.

"They are all quite traumatised. There were two young children in the house, and unfortunately they witnessed some of the attack."
