Hartlepool man has suspected Legionnaires’ disease
A Hartlepool man receiving treatment for suspected Legionnaires' disease is recovering well, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has said.
The man is being cared for at North Tees hospital.
Dr Peter Acheson, from the HPA, said the agency was working with environmental health officers from Hartlepool Council to find the potential source of the infection.
The HPA is not aware of any other suspected cases in the area.
Dr Acheson said: "Legionnaires' disease does not spread from person to person and can only be contracted from the source of the contaminated water.
"We are working closely with the local authority to investigate potential sources of infection as is standard practice.
"We are not aware of any other suspected cases in the local area at the present time but remain vigilant."
