Support service jobs at Cleveland Police are to be axed

Support staff working for Cleveland Police are at risk of redundancy, the force has said.

Steria, the company that deals with the majority of civilian jobs for the force, has said it needs to lose 30 roles.

It took on staff to perform tasks that Cleveland Police agreed to outsource, but the jobs were never passed over.

The force said it would try to avoid making the 30 positions compulsory redundancies.

The jobs, including intelligence, prisoner handling and neighbourhood safety, were initially meant to pass to Steria as part of a 500-strong civilian workforce as part of a 10-year agreement with Cleveland Police.
