An investigation is under way after a prisoner was found dead at a Teesside jail - the second death at the prison within a month.

Michael Jackson was discovered in his cell at the category B Holme House facility in Stockton on Wednesday, the Prison Service said.

The 39-year-old had been recalled to jail to serve the remainder of a one-year sentence for affray.

On 23 June, remand prisoner Andrew Wilkes was found hanged in his cell.

A Prison Service spokeswoman said: "HMP Holme House prisoner Michael Joseph Jackson was pronounced dead in his cell at 11.20am on Wednesday July 11, after what appeared to be an act of serious self-harm.

"As with all deaths in custody, the independent Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation."
