Strikes are taking place across the UK in a series of disputes with the government over pay, pensions and cuts.

Teachers, council staff, firefighters and civil servants are among those taking industrial action.

The following information relates to Thursday 10 July 2014.

    'Most loving guy' 08:52:

    The search for a swimmer missing in the River Tees is due to resume later this morning after student David Zikhali, 20, got into difficulties near the Millennium Bridge in Stockton on Monday evening.

    A friend of Mr Zikhali's, Commonwealth Games sprinter Richard Kilty, said the news was "absolutely devastating".

    He said: "David was the most loving guy you'll ever meet. He's always laughing, he's always joking. He's loved by everyone across Stockton."

    There's slow traffic on the A19 southbound in Cramlington after Moor Farm Roundabout because of an accident involving three vehicles earlier on, reports BBC Travel News.
