Two Durham Police officers charged with custody assault

A Durham policeman and a member of the force's staff will face trial next year on assault charges.

Sergeant Stephen Harvey, 50, and Detention officer Michael Mount, 60, face two charges each of assault on a 47-year-old man in custody at Peterlee Police Station in March.

The incident was investigated by the police watchdog, the IPCC.

They both pleaded both not guilty at Teesside Magistrates, and will appear in court again on 9 January.
