A "world class" underground BMX and skateboard park has opened inside an old Victorian swimming bath complex.

The £1.2m Source Park facility, at the former White Rock Baths under the promenade in Hastings, welcomed its first skaters and riders on Saturday.

The project has taken almost a year to complete and has created 30 jobs.

The team behind it hope the main arena will attract the "brightest and best riders" from around the UK and Europe.

'World class facility'

Richard Moore, Source Park director, said: "After months of refurbishment we're really excited to finally be opening The Source Park.

"We're so pleased that our vision for the dilapidated site has at last come to fruition and will offer riders and skaters a state of the art, world class facility here in our home town Hastings."

The skate park project was funded by the borough and county councils, landowner the Foreshore Trust, and The Source BMX shop, which fitted it out.

Hastings Borough Council said the facility would be let on a 10-year lease.
