Warnings issued to Brighton's Hazelgrove Nursing Home

A Brighton nursing home has been issued with two warnings and one demand for compliance action, after inspectors said urgent improvements were needed.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) found unsafe and inappropriate care at Hazelgrove Nursing Home and also said there were not enough staff on duty.

Inspectors also found none of the current staff had training on the Mental Capacity Act.

Owner Al-Naseer Hudda said action was being taken.

"We are working very closely with the CQC and social services in Brighton and we are doing everything possible to take the home forward," he said.

'Unnecessary risks'

In their report, inspectors said they saw examples of unsafe care practices, especially in manual handling.

Some staff did not know about risk management plans for some people, which put residents at unnecessary risk of harm, the report said.

When some staff were recruited, references had not been followed up.

Inspectors have asked the home's managers to tell them how improvements will be made, in terms of quality assurance, staffing requirements and support.
