Sompting death: Dudley Boakes charged with murdering wife

A 79-year-old man has appeared in court accused of murdering his wife.

Sandra Boakes, 70, was found with head injuries in Grasmere Avenue, Sompting, West Sussex, on 3 April and she died two days later at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

Dudley Boakes was initially charged with attempted murder but the Crown Prosecution Service later authorised a charge of murder.

Crawley magistrates remanded him to appear at Lewes Crown Court on Monday.
