A man who killed his elderly partner and left his body to rot in a Brighton flat has been jailed for 18 and a half years.

Michael Polding, 62, was found dead at his home in St George's Road in July last year. It is believed he died two months earlier from multiple injuries.

Ricardo Pisano, 36, was convicted of manslaughter and causing actual bodily harm but cleared of murder.

Outside Lewes Crown Court, Mr Polding's relatives, Sam and Mary McKeown, said Pisano was "an evil monster".

Det Ch Insp Jon Fanner told BBC correspondent Paul Siegert that Pisano bled Mr Polding dry of his money and then killed him and left him to rot in his home.
