Brighton woman's gym session ends in hospital stay

A Brighton woman has said she feels lucky to be alive after ending up in hospital as a result of an hour at the gym.

Rebecca Johnson, 30, hired a personal trainer to get fit for a special event.

But after the hour-long session she found her arms had swelled, and after being taken to hospital she was put on a drip for four days.

Ms Johnson, who was found to have rhabdomyolysis - a breakdown of skeletal muscle - told BBC reporter Ian Palmer the major effects came the day after her training.

Joe Addison, personal trainer, said soreness after exercise was normal but some symptoms were warning signs.
