A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead at her flat in West Sussex.

Paramedics were called to Heron Court, in Victoria Road, Worthing at about 18:00 GMT on Tuesday after reports a 50-year-old woman was unconscious.

The woman, who is believed to have been involved in a fight earlier, was declared dead at the scene.

A 34-year-old man is being questioned after being arrested at Warwick Street, in Worthing, on Tuesday evening.

A post-mortem examination is expected to be take place later.

Det Insp Wendy Burton said; "The inquiry is at an early stage and we have yet to establish the full circumstances. We would like to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious at Heron Court in the hours before we were contacted.

"We would also like to hear from anyone who saw an altercation between a man and a woman, who we believe is the deceased, in Bedford Row, a roadway off Warwick Street, sometime around 4pm on Tuesday afternoon."
