Police have dropped an investigation into an alleged sexual assault on a teenage girl saying there was "no evidence to substantiate the allegation".

The girl alleged she was attacked in Brockham, Surrey, on 21 July.

Surrey Police had sought two men over the allegation, which was said to have occurred in an alleyway close to the centre of the village.

However, detectives have said they have now completed their investigation.

Insp Andy Rundle said: "I hope the community can be reassured that a thorough investigation has taken place and following extensive enquiries officers have found no evidence to suggest there is any risk to the community."

He added that police would always take allegations of sexual assault seriously and carry out a full investigation.
