Woman attacked and raped in Crawley alleyway

A 34-year-old woman has been attacked and raped in an alleyway in Crawley.

Sussex Police said a man grabbed her from behind, pinned her down and assaulted her.

Officers are supporting the victim who they said was so traumatised she was unable to tell them whether the attack happened on Monday or Tuesday.

It is understood the woman had walked from The Mardens, across Crawley Avenue and into Ifield Road before she was attacked.

She was in an alleyway between Ifield Road and Furzefield in West Green when the man grabbed her.

He ran off towards Furzefield after the attack, police said.

The attacker is described as Asian, of a slim build, between 5ft 6in (1.6m) and 5ft 8in (1.7m) tall, and wore a black T-shirt and white footwear.

Det Insp Sarah Barrett urged anyone who recognised the description of the attacker to contact the force.
