Tests to find the cause of death of a man and woman whose bodies were found in a flat in West Sussex proved inconclusive, police have said.

The bodies of a 51-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were discovered when officers were called to the property in Park Road, Bognor Regis, on 12 July.

Police said they were now awaiting the results of toxicology tests, which would take several weeks.

The deaths are being treated as unexplained but are not suspicious.

'Isolated incident'

Due to a concern there could be a chemical danger at the flat a hazardous response team from the ambulance service attended the scene following the discovery.

No evidence of a noxious substance was found at the property, and no linked incidents had been reported since, Det Sgt Chris Pipkin said.

"We are treating this as an isolated incident," he added.

Officers have appealed for anyone with information about the deaths to contact them.
