Four police cars and several other vehicles were damaged during a 16 mile (26km) police chase through Sussex.

The pursuit began when a grey transit van was spotted being driven erratically in North Street, Brighton, at about 15:45 BST on Sunday.

During the chase the van was involved in a number of crashes with police and private vehicles.

Officers managed to stop the van by puncturing its tyres on the A27 at Selmeston.

A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving under the influence of drink or drugs, failing to stop and theft.

Another man was arrested on suspicion of being carried in a stolen vehicle.
