A 20-year-old man has died after a hit-and-run in Bognor on Monday evening, Sussex Police said.

Charlie Hancock, from Pagham, was hit in Rowan Way just after 22:00 BST and taken to hospital where he died in the early hours of Tuesday.

A man, aged 41, thought to be the driver of a Chrysler Voyager, was arrested and remains in police custody.

Police said it was believed that Mr Hancock had earlier been involved in an argument with a man in the car.

"This is now being treated as a homicide investigation," a Sussex Police spokeswoman said.

Det Insp Wendy Burton said: "We are appealing to anyone who saw two men having an altercation while in a grey Chrysler Voyager vehicle in Rowan Way, Bognor, between 21:30 and 22:00 on Monday, to come forward."

She said officers were trying to trace Mr Hancock's movements in the hours leading up to the incident.

The man in custody was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
