Brighton homeless man's bedding set alight in attack

A homeless man had his bedding set alight during a "nasty attack" near Brighton seafront.

Sussex Police said the 33-year-old was attacked as he slept in Kings Road on Thursday evening.

People from a nearby business spotted the flames and managed to extinguish the fire.

Det Con Paul Clements said: "The victim, who is one of Brighton's rough sleepers, luckily only suffered minor injuries."

He added: "A number of people from local businesses saw the fire and bravely stepped in to help this man and their actions prevented his injuries from being more serious.

"This was a horrible and completely unnecessary attack..."
