A runner who died after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest during the Brighton marathon has been named.

Sam Harper Brighouse, 23, collapsed on Grand Avenue in Hove, 16 miles (26km) into the race.

He was treated by a police officer and paramedics before being taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital but was pronounced dead later.

He was running to raise money for a charity which helps children affected by HIV and Aids in India and Africa.

Mr Harper Brighouse was named locally. Police said his next of kin had been informed of his death.

Well-wishers have been leaving tributes and donations on his Just Giving fundraising page since his death.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place on Monday.
