Ashdown Forest gorse fire investigated

Up to 40 firefighters have tackled a blaze in the Ashdown Forest.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said the fire covering 300 square metres (984 square feet) of gorse and undergrowth broke out on Monday just before 21:00 BST, east of Nutley.

Ten fire engines and four Land Rovers were sent to the scene where the fire was put out by 23:20 BST.

The cause of the fire was being investigated and the scene inspected again on Tuesday. No-one was injured.

Ashdown Forest, on the borders of East and West Sussex, was the setting for AA Milne's Winnie the Pooh books, which featured a fictional Hundred Acre Wood.
