The family of a man who died when the car he was driving collided with an ambulance in Brighton has paid tribute to "an exceptional person".

Gary Tucker, 45, died at the scene in Marine Drive on Thursday night. His passenger was seriously injured.

In a statement, Mr Tucker's family described him as "a beautiful person who always had a smile on his face".

There were no patients in the ambulance, which was responding to an emergency, but a crew member was hurt.

A 43-year-old passenger was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, Sussex Police said.

The ambulance crew member was slightly injured and taken to hospital but was later discharged.
