West Sussex council ditch clearance as Lancing floods
Work has begun to clear ditches in Lancing after flooding this winter.
West Sussex County Council said the area was hit by high ground water after Christmas and continuous rainfall, which led the sewers to surcharge.
The authority said the work was being carried out as part of an £8.25m scheme to pay for highway drainage and environmental improvements, set up after severe floods last year.
Clearance work is taking place in the Lancing Manor area.
The local authority said further planned work included improving the drainage on the A29 near Shripney, and in Middleton, Birdham and Colworth.
It said projects to improve other flooding hotspots at Sea Road in Littlehampton, Delling Lane in Bosham, and Stumps Lane in Bosham will be started shortly.
